A Filipino tourist was given a two-month jail term on Thursday at a Hong Kong court after he pleaded guilty to offering sex for money to an undercover police officer in Wan Chai early on Wednesday.

Gene Belonio, 20, a university student from the Philippines, who arrived in Hong Kong on November 27 and was allowed to stay until December 11, was charged with one count of soliciting for an immoral purpose and breach of conditions of stay for working illegally in Hong Kong, sunwebhk.com reported.

At 12:57am on Wednesday, Belonio approached a man who turned out to be an undercover police officer outside Wan Chai Central Building on Lockhart Road. He offered the officer sex for HK$1,000 (US$128). When the officer agreed, they went to a hotel in Causeway Bay, where the officer arrested him.

On Thursday at Eastern Court, Belonio pleaded guilty to both charges and was given a two-month jail term.

In Hong Kong, the maximum penalty for soliciting for an immoral purpose is a fine of HK$10,000 and a six-month jail term, while for breach of conditions of stay it is a fine of HK$50,000 and a two-year jail term.
