A Hong Kong court gave a Filipino domestic worker a three-month jail term suspended for two years on Friday after she pleaded guilty to damaging property and assaulting two people, including her ex-boyfriend.

Although she escaped immediate imprisonment, she was ordered by the magistrate to compensate the victims HK$3,400 (US$435) for their injuries and property damage.

Remalyn Aguinaldo, 32, a single mother, was charged with one count of criminal damage and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

On September 6, Abdel Mohid, Aguinaldo’s boyfriend at the time, returned to their home in Kowloon City at midnight. He was drunk, and was assisted into his room by a woman named Suliani, who did not live there, and a female neighbor, sunwebhk.com reported.

When Aguinaldo arrived at the apartment, she became angry and started shouting at Mohid, who had locked himself in his room. She kicked the door of his room several times until the lower part broke, and then she crawled into the room.

Aguinaldo slapped and scratched Mohid’s chest. She then turned to Suliani and hit her head with a shoe extender. Suliani fell to the floor and Aguinaldo kicked her head and body.

The female neighbor called the police, who arrested Aguinaldo.

In Hong Kong, persons convicted of assault or property damage may face up to 10 years in jail. Aguinaldo was given a lighter penalty because of her clean record and her employer’s endorsement.
