The Indonesian consulate has urged the Macau authorities to crackdown on human trafficking in the city after receiving 13 cases in the past year.

Tri Tharyat, consul general of the Indonesian Consulate in Hong Kong and Macau, outlined the problems to the media on Sunday, pinpointing Macau and mainland China, Today Macau reported.

He stressed that some of the victims paid to get jobs in the gambling mecca, but once they arrived they were forced into servitude.

Tri said he had managed to help victims brought to trial in Indonesia.

The consulate general had reported the cases to the Macau government and urged them to pay greater attention to human trafficking issue in the city.

Tri insisted that he would work closely with the authorities to protect migrant rights, Macau Daily Times reported.
