A 48-year-old Filipino woman died after being hit by a van on Monday in Dandan, Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands in the western Pacific.

Angelita Lozada was hit at 5:20am by a white Honda Odyssey on Chalan Msgr Guerrero in front of the Twin’s Super Market, Saipan Tribune reported.

Lozada suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center, where she was pronounced dead at 5:35am.

The driver said he did not see the victim until a passenger yelled at him. By the time he reacted, his car had collided with the victim.

Police are investigating the accident but ruled out alcohol as the cause.
