Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered Labor Department officials to help Filipino domestic workers stuck in Hong Kong get home before Christmas.

About 1,000 Filipino domestic workers have been stranded in Hong Kong since Sunday after Peya Travel Agency failed to provide plane tickets for them.

Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III said they were coordinating with Foreign Affairs and Defence officials, plus Philippines Airlines (PAL) to help get their compatriots back for the festive season, as ordered by Duterte, Interaksyon reported.

“We have instructions from President Durterte to bring our overseas foreign workers home before Christmas,” he said in a TV interview.

Bello said he had made arrangements with Defence officials to use a C130 carrier plane for the domestic workers. “We will see to it (that) in two to three days you will be able to go home to the Philippines,” he said.

He said he had spoken to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to arrest the travel agent and to charge those responsible in court, PTV News reported.
