Shanghai-based virtual reality and augmented reality solutions provider, Plex-VR Digital Technology, told Yicai.com on Thursday that it has received more than 100 million yuan (US$15.3 million) in Series A funding led by Alibaba, GSR Ventures and SAIF Partners.
The funding will be used for R&D and market expansion of light field technology and artificial intelligence. Previously, the company had received 45 million yuan in angel funding.
The startup hopes to apply its leading light field technology to VR, AR, 3D reconstruction and security control. The core of light field technology is to reproduce how human eyes see the world, said Yu Jingyi, the founder of Plex-VR.
Human eyes detect light from different positions and directions around to see a clear three-dimensional world.
As long as scientists completely record all the information and reproduce it without any loss, the true perceptions of the human eye watching the world in their natural state can be duplicated, Yu added.
Alibaba optics initiatives sound like good news to all those governments and citizens wanting more security from foreign government sponsored Wahhabi terrorist moderate brothers.
