Newly opened Hannan General Aviation Airport, currently the largest general aviation firm in China, covers an area of 919.85 acres, twice the size of competitors at Qiandaohu Airport and Shenyang Airport, Yicai.com reported.
Put into service on October 29, it boasts a 20,000 square-meter storehouse can accommodate eight Boeing 737s, or 30 Gulfstream G150s. The storehouse is currently also the world’s largest, the report said.
Gao Yuanyang, Vice President of Beijing University’s Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, told Yicai.com that according to the 13th five-year development plan for general aviation issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, by the year 2020, the number of general aviation aircraft in China will surpass 5,000.
The market size of the entire industry will also exceed 1 trillion yuan (US$151.3 billion).
“The geographical location of Wuhan is favorable, which gives greater advantages and potential to the development of the industry,” Gao said.
Wang Jiamao, head of Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, said in 10 to 15 years, the aviation industry could be the next in Wuhan to achieve trillions in profit.
According to Wuhan Municipal Commission of Information Commission, the city now has 16 aviation enterprises, three aviation operations and service companies.
