Police have found the body of a 17-year-old schoolgirl, who went missing on Sunday, in waters off Hung Hom in Kowloon.

The girl, surnamed Chin, went missing after leaving her home on Babington Path in Mid-levels on Hong Kong Island, Apple Daily reported.

Her family reported the girl missing to police on Monday, which led to the police issuing a public appeal on her whereabouts.

At 1pm on Monday, police received a report that a body was found in the waters off Wan Hoi Street in Hung Hom, Wen Wei Pao reported.

Officers said there were no identification documents on the body.

On Tuesday, the girl’s family confirmed it was their missing daughter.

Chin was understood to be studying at a direct subsidy scheme school in Kowloon East. She was due to take a university entrance examination at the school this year, Oriental Daily reported.

Initial investigation has revealed nothing suspicious about her death.
