A Filipino domestic worker was forced to sleep on a bed over two washing machines in a laundry room in Po Tak Mansion in Happy Valley in Hong Kong Island, according to a Facebook post.
The domestic worker said in the post that her bed was as long as a refrigerator and on top of two washing machines. She said she endured poor air quality in the laundry room when the machines were working.

The maid said her employers required her to return home at 7:30pm on days off to take care of their children. She also had to look after the children on holidays when her employers were out in the evening.
Worse, she said she was always emotionally abused by her employer.
“When I teach my employer’s 7-year-old child to behave and tidy up, he used the ‘F’ word and called me stupid-silly-worst helper,” she said in her post. Not surprisingly, she said she had left this employer.
Under regulations in Hong Kong, employers are required to provide a six-feet-long bed for domestic workers. However, the rules do not list more detailed requirements in regard to accommodation for workers.
Domestic workers are entitled to a 24-hour day off every week but some employers fail to meet the requirements.
The Mission For Migrant Workers (MGMW), a non-government group that services foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong, has urged the city government to take action to ensure that foreign domestic workers are given proper accommodation – including a room and access to a toilet.

Me also sleep in the living room and do work before go out every day off and also go home 7:30 and do work…terrible
Mas maganda pa ipaglaban ang long service pag tapus ng 6yrs bigay agad .
Hindi yong boarding house kumikita at ngsisikipan kung stay out ang hinihingi nyo
I agree with u kabayan many abusive employers they demand too much of the helpers but they cant afford to give a proper accomodation and enough food
In before i experienced that as i sleep in the kitchen pantry improvised bed was given and no window.its like sleeping inside the oven or worse sleep on a grave. My employers every abused me emotionally saying im just a helper, a servant and my opinion is not important.they always say "F" word to me. And telling me im a shit, bitch, evil bullshit. That’s why i break contract. Overload of work loads not enough rest. Abusive too.
WLA ba magchecheck ng house before they can request to have a maid sa canada kasi u need to apply sa govt nila provided may valid reason for helper plus can afford and provide decent room or living pwede rin ang live out depending sa need. Its is inhuman sana makita ng UN ito this is legal slavery !
Yes most problem is that no privacy and still working before and after offdays..
Martina Sinrof yes i will sis..we just move to the other place but the space or the room is more smaller than before..i will take a photo on it to show to the immigration as one of the reason why i have to break my contract
Vediohan mo or pic. As Proof
I hope i hope please
The Hongkong Labor should step up on the issue of proper accomodation. Can the government do inspection on employers houses to check if the employers really provide the right accomodation and privacy for helpers? And for erring employers who require their helpers to do work on their days off, can they be given a harsh or heavy penalty that way the wrong practice would stop?
Yes please…
Same here..agencies.they should check the employers before they gave a helper to them…even under fees they are still giving..
in the contract ,,it says the maid have there own room…ir share with children…to all fellow OFW ..we have our rights to complain to the Labour Dept..of Hongkong dont be scared to report ur rights..
Making sure that FDH can enjoy the 24 hours of rest during their day off and on statutory holidays will be one accomplished milestone for the labour department of HK
stay out much better than stay in..
Even me i have my own room but sad to say i slept on the floor with half meter wide i used only a thick blanket as my bed..the room is full of stuff which is she made it a stock room…the place also where she hang washed clothes abd dry there with the humidifier and no window,no aircon and not enough ventalation coz im only using a clam fan.i sleep together with the big boxes and no cabinet or drawer for my clothes ..hopefully stay out will be implemented if the employer could not provide us helpers enough space or a room to sleep..
we’re much hoping that the said matter will be acted as soon as possible for the sake of those helpers not treated good by their employers base on the rules in yhe contract.
Thank You
Nice employers
stay out no stay inn pls….
Can i share my complain too
