Hong Kong employers have been advised to remain patient if they find that their maids’ work habits are unhygienic, as most such cases can be resolved through discussion, and punishment is unnecessary.
An unnamed employer recently said in a post on social media that she got upset after she saw her son’s cup being use by her domestic worker to soak her dentures one evening, according to an article published on Wednesday on SkyPost, which mainly serves middle-class readers.
The employer said her maid, who had worked for the family for many years, had suggested buying the cup for the young master during a family trip. She said she was stunned later to see the maid’s dentures in the cup, which was used by her son to drink milk in the morning.
Another employer said on the website that her maid used the same towel to clean dishes, tables and the floor. Another said her domestic helper once used a brush meant for cleaning pots to clean the toilet.
Joan Tsui Hiu-tung, convener of the Support Group for HK Employers with FDHs, told SkyPost that employers should consider punishing their maids for causing potential hygienic problems in the home, for example by making deductions from their salaries.
However, Wendy Lau Lai-sze, founder and chief executive of Success Employment Services Ltd, said employers should remain patient and help their maids change their working procedures.
Lau said employers should buy towels and tools in different colors so that domestic workers could distinguish their purposes more easily. She said punishment was unlikely to help resolve problems of this kind.

Oh really it happens to me our helper is a Filipino she’s using the cloth from the bathroom to clean our fridge I’m there and I ask her where did u get the cloth she said from the bathroom i said pls can u clean that again and use the new cloth from the kitchen it’s my personal experience

Filipino has a good hygiene habits…but if employes experienced this kind of situation maybe both of them has conflict..If u treat them good they will served u better …im just saying..

thats impossible that helper used one towel for wiping everything as first day employer here in Hongkong have a list of thing to do or use for cleaning. i doubt it and i dont believed it. they are just trying to shaming helper in social media as they knew that helper the only way to voice out their situation is through comments on a article post by the sun news or asja times regarding their day to day routine of those bloody employers that no manners at all. as a self respect if women have period they should take off their used napkin or sanitary pad on their underwear. then if have blood stain on it soak it with warm water with soap. some employers if it was allowed to put name on it definitely i already put her or his pictures if shaming publicly together with their used yucky stuff that they just left it on the floor, kitchen, bed and even vibrator supposedly they keep it properly us their private used they just left it on bed still with cums on it. then act like they are the cleanest human on earth that cant commit mistakes…..
Oh no, Helpers will not do this act if the employers are good.. If you love and treat helpers as your family they will love u more, but if you are that bad employers, well, expect worst from them.

Rina Zerudo katulong din ako madam pero hindi ko ginagawa iyan. If you’re doing it to anyone or anywhere..you’re just showing that you’re doing it in your own home as well. Just imagine how unhealthy it would be. Better do the right thing where ever you are.
