A 21-year-old local man was arrested by police, who found suspected illegal drugs after he crashed into seven vehicles while trying to escape during a chase on Tuesday.
At 9am a traffic police officer intercepted the driver surnamed Fu after he stopped his Mercedes Benz in the “fast lane” of a round-about on Hammer Hill Road and Lung Cheung Road in Kowloon’s Diamond Hill, Apple Daily reported.
Fu sped away and the officer called for backup. Ten police cars joined in the chase that stretched for eight kilometers – from Kwun Tong Road to Tate’s Cairn Highway in Kowloon.
During the six-minute-chase, the Benz rammed into seven cars including two trucks, a taxi, a mini-van, two buses and a coach before it finally stopped on Lei Yue Mun Road in Lam Tin, Metro Daily reported.
The suspect got out of the car and ran into Lam Tin Mass Transit Railway Station. However, he was arrested by the police chasing him at the station.
Police confiscated 14.5 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of HK$18,000 (US$2,308), plus equipment to smoke methamphetamine and two license plates in the suspect’s jacket and in his car.
The man, understood to have a triad background, could not provide an identity card.
He was arrested for dangerous driving, drug trafficking, possession of illegal drugs and equipment for smoking drugs, driving without a license and using a false instrument.
