The National Development and Reform Commission has released a new Three-Year Plan from 2018 to 2020, to improve the core competitiveness of manufacturing, Yicai.com reported.

The plan focuses on nine key areas, including rail transportation equipment, high-end vessels and marine engineering equipment, intelligent robots, smart cars, modern agricultural machinery, high-end medical equipment and medicines, new materials, intelligent manufacturing and major technical equipment.

The overall goal is to industrialize a number of key technologies in the above areas, form a group of leading enterprises with international influence and establish a batch of internationally recognized Chinese standards, all with the aim of significant improvements in manufacturing innovation capability and product quality.

Li Haijian, the deputy director of the Institute of Industrial Economics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said the nine areas represent the direction and future of Chinese manufacturing.
