Police arrested a 70-year-old man on Sunday after he attacked his wife and two daughters with a kitchen knife following an argument at their home in Kwai Chung in the New Territories.
The man surnamed Yip had an argument at about 11pm with his wife, 67, over money in a flat in Shek Kwong House in Kwai Chung’s Shek Lei Estate, Wen Wei Po reported.
The man got emotional before rushing to the kitchen and grabbing the knife. He allegedly waved it in the air before stabbing his wife in her right arm then dropping it on the floor.
He allegedly returned to the kitchen and took another knife. Three daughters at home immediately stopped him but two of them, aged 32 and 25, ended up stabbed, with injuries to their nose and face, respectively.
The three injured women left home for help, leaving the oldest daughter and her two girls at home with Yip.
A 66-year-old neighbor surnamed Mak immediately helped the three injured women, while Mak’s daughter called the police, Sing Tao Daily reported.
The man’s eldest daughter managed to escape with her one-year-old girl, but her elder child, aged 3, was still in the flat – sleeping.
Mak, with help from two other neighbors, closed the metal gate to stop Yip from running out. They talked to the old man, advised him to calm down and not to hurt his family.
Police arrived with shields and subdued the man before taking him to the police station.
Three injured women were sent to hospital while the two young children were unhurt.
