Two vehicles parked in Kowloon’s Sham Shui Po district were hit by falling pieces of galvanized canopy on Sunday as Typhoon Khanun approached the city.
At about 1:30pm, 10 pieces of canopy measuring 150 by 30 centimeters, accompanied by several steel poles, fell from the rooftop of Golden Building on Fuk Wa Street in Sham Shui Po because of the strong wind, Sing Tao Daily reported.
The falling metal hit two minivans parked on the street, smashing some of their windows, while a 3-meter-long steel pole struck the sidewalk.
Luckily, no one was in the minivans or on the street, as the No 8 typhoon signal had been hoisted.
Police cordoned off the area to until the debris was cleared.
After an investigation with officers from the Housing Department, police arrested a 56-year-old man who was believed to be the owner of the rooftop structure, for allegedly allowing something to fall from a height.
