A married woman from mainland China was robbed by a man in a hotel room in Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island on Friday.
Police received a report from a man at 3am to say that someone had stolen his 30-year-old wife’s handbag, which had HK$1,000 (US$128) in cash in it, from a room in iClub Sheung Wan Hotel on Bonham Strand in Sheung Wan, Apple Daily reported.
It was understood that the woman came to Hong Kong alone for a holiday and met the suspect in a bar in Lan Kwai Fong.
The woman took the man back to her hotel room, and he is said to have taken her handbag and escaped while she was taking shower in the bathroom.
She tried to chase after the suspect but failed and twisted her ankle.
The woman went to Queen Mary Hospital for medical treatment but had no money to pay the fee, thus, so she called her husband, in Shenzhen, for help, Sing Tao Daily reported.
Her husband reported the case to the police when he arrived Hong Kong.
The case has been classed as theft and officers are now hunting a man, aged about 30 to 35, with Chinese nationality after viewing surveillance camera footage.
