A 60-year-old man from mainland China was arrested by Hong Kong police on Tuesday for at least three alleged robberies in the city’s Admiralty area.
The man, surnamed Di, was ambushed and arrested by police officers at a tram station in Admiralty on Hong Kong Island when he allegedly tried to steal a gold necklace worth around HK$9,600 (US$1,230) from a 36-year-old woman, Headline Daily reported.
Two similar cases at the same location – the tram station between Pacific Place and Queensway Plaza – were reported to police on Sunday and Monday.
On Sunday, a 39-year-old woman reported that her gold necklace worth HK$3,000 had been snatched from behind, and the next day, a 65-year-old woman told police that her gold necklace worth HK$20,000 had been stolen, Oriental Daily reported.
Police from Central District investigated the cases and arrested the man on Tuesday when he tried to rob the third woman.
Two gold necklaces were found on Di’s person and at his home, police said.
The man was arrested for suspected robbery and detained pending further investigation.
