An Indonesian woman was found dead in a suitcase inside a rented apartment in Kuala Lumpur last Sunday. On October 15, a Chinese man who lived in the same apartment as the woman but in a separate room, became extremely annoyed by a pungent odor coming out of her room, prompting him to check it out, China Press, a Malaysian Chinese-language newspaper, reported on Wednesday.

In the room was a suitcase, which was identified as the source of the unpleasant smell. To the man’s horror, he found that it contained the decaying body of the Indonesian woman, whose identity remained unknown as Malaysian police could not find any of the victim’s personal documentation.

The body was taken to the mortuary of Sungai Buloh Hospital.

The case is being treated as a murder, with preliminary investigation suggesting that the woman was killed in the room and that the murderer had initially planned to dispose of her body somewhere by using the suitcase to transfer her out of the crime scene.

It is not known why the killer abandoned that plan and left the body in the room.
