Two people are in hospital after the driver of a food-delivery motorbike hit an elderly man in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island on Monday.
The rider, a 30-year-old man of Indian origin named Singh, was driving the motorcycle for food delivery group Foodpanda along Fleming Road, heading to Lockhart Road at about noon, when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle, Oriental Daily reported.
The motorcycle knocked an 89-year-old man surnamed Lo to the ground and he fell into a coma, while the rider was also injured.
Both men were sent to Queen Mary hospital in a critical condition. They were put into intensive care units for medical treatment.
The rider was understood to have injured his hand and suffered face fractures, while the old man had a fractured pelvis, HK01.com reported.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident and suspect that it may involve running a red light, Sing Tao Daily quoted a police source as saying.
A spokesperson from Foodpanda said the company was sad to learn about the accident and injuries suffered by the victim and employee. It would provide assistance necessary to both men and their families. Compensation would be discussed with its insurance company, as Singh was a full-time staff member.
