Hong Kong police arrested 14 illegal immigrants from Vietnam and five human traffickers during an operation on Friday. The illegal immigrants, eight men and six women, were aged between 17 and 55, Oriental Daily reported.
Hong Kong police working with counterparts from Guangdong conducted a search and found eight Vietnamese hiding in the hills in the Cape D’Aguilar area of Shek O on Hong Kong Island.
Officers arrested four other illegal immigrants and a male trafficker at Shau Kei Wan Mass Transit Railway station. They also arrested a female trafficker of Vietnamese origin and a male Vietnamese asylum seeker in Mong Kok, Kowloon, later in the day.
On Friday evening, four more people were arrested.
Officers from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau believed that the illegal immigrants first legally entered Guangxi province in mainland China, which borders Vietnam, and then travelled to Shenzhen, Apple Daily reported.
They arrived in the Shek O area around midnight by speedboat and tried to get to an urban area along a hill path.
