A 45-year-old Malay man from Selangor in Malaysia surrendered himself to the police after his 40-year-old wife filed a report accusing him of allegedly physically and sexually assaulting their 32-year-old Indonesian domestic helper.

The man’s wife, also of Malay origin, told Harian Metro that she overheard the maid crying for help on September 17. Inside the worker’s bedroom, she says she found her husband – who claimed that it was the maid who had taken initiative to attack him – beating her up.

The wife begged her husband to stop, but in vain. Afterwards, she took their three children, aged between one and four, and the victim, to her parents’ home in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya.

The maid informed her employer that she had been raped by the man in August. The woman accompanied the maid in filing a report to the police.

On Friday, Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia) cited a Malaysian police chief as it reported that the male suspect had turned himself in on October 20. It said he was immediately put under arrest for allegedly raping the maid, whose examination report showed that her private parts had sustained injuries caused by sexual abuse.

The man was held in custody until October 30. The maid was also held in custody until October 29 due to failing to present valid personal documents to the police.
