Ma Jun, Former chief economist of China’s central bank, told Caixin that he has now become the head of Tsinghua University’s Finance and Development Research Center.
Ma joined central bank in April 2014. He was poached from Deutsche Bank as the central bank tried to bring in experts from the market to push the internationalization of the yuan and develop areas such as green finance. Ma was the bank’s first external hire to take up a senior expert role.
The Finance and Development Research Center of Tsinghua University was established in 2016. It is a joint venture between the central bank and Tsinghua University, and acts like a think tank under the Tsinghua PBC School of Finance.
According to the institute’s website, it focuses on policy research of financing for the real economy, precautionary measures of financial risks, financing related to the Belt and Road initiative, green finance and the development of finance in emerging markets, the report added.
