A 52-year-old man who is alleged to have stabbed an off-duty policeman in a public housing estate in Kwai Chung in Hong Kong’s New Territories on Sunday has been arrested.
Oriental Daily reports that at 9pm on Sunday, a 49-year-old police officer surnamed Ng, from the force’s traffic division, went to a flat on the 7th floor of Fung Yam House in On Yam Estate to visit his mother.
She was not at home. However, it is believed that the suspect, surnamed Yeung, came out of the flat opposite, in which he lives, and stabbed Ng from behind with a knife.
Yeung is said to have plunged Ng several times before following him to the stairwell before a neighbor came out. Other neighbors appeared and the police were called.
They arrived with shields, subdued the suspect and arrested him for alleged assault.
Apple Daily reports that Ng was sent to hospital with at least eight wounds to his face, neck, chest, and one serious wound to his abdomen.
