A 29-year-old woman tried to commit suicide with her two children at home in Kowloon’s Mong Kok by burning charcoal on Thursday night.

At 9:33pm, police received a report from a 36-year-old man surnamed Kam that his girlfriend attempted to commit suicide in a flat in Chung Fung Mansion on Tong Mi Road in Mong Kok, according to a government release.

Police went to the scene and found the woman surnamed Chun, plus her three-year-old son and one-year-old daughter in the flat with a basin of burned charcoal. The three of them were conscious.

Police sent the two children to Kwong Wah Hospital for medical treatment but the woman refused to go and was later arrested for attempted murder. She has been detained at a police station pending further inquiries.

It is understood that Chun sent a photo showing the burning charcoal to Kam before he rushed back home, Sing Tao Daily reported.

A police source said the couple had not married despite living together for over 10 years.
