Darci Lynne Farmer, a 12-year-old ventriloquist who can sing and talk without moving her mouth, has become the Season 12 champion of America’s Got Talent.
After 52 million votes were cast, Farmer became the third female act to win the televised talent contest. She is also the second ventriloquist to win the show, following Terry Fator, who won in Season 2 and is now running his own show at The Mirage hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On Tuesday evening US time, Farmer, who hails from Oklahoma City in the US, with her puppets “Petunia” and “Oscar” sang “With a Little Help from My Friends” by The Beatles.
Another contestant, Angelica Hale, a 10-year-old Filipino-American singer, covered “Symphony” by Clean Bandit.
In Wednesday’s finale, Hale and fellow contestant Kechi Okwuchi, a plane-crash survivor, performed Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” with Clarkson herself.
Deaf singer Mandy Harvey took the stage with Canadian singer Shania Twain in a beautiful duet of “You’re Still the One”.
Farmer and her puppet “Petunia” sang “Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)” with Fator. She wins US$1 million and a headlining gig at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas.
Nine-year-old Hong Kong singer Celine Tam failed to reach the finals last week.
