It is not unusual to see Filipinos sitting on the streets, sharing food and chatting with friends in Hong Kong’s Central district on a Sunday, but it was a bit different last weekend.
More than 10,000 fans flocked to see their idol, Filipino actor and dancer Enrique Gil, at a mobile-phone shop at Euro Trade Centre in Central, the city’s busiest business center, Apple Daily reported.
Photos on social media showed big crowds lining up on both sides of Des Voeux Road Central, hoping to meet or just to catch a fleeting glimpse of the 25-year-old celebrity.
Gil was invited by a Hong Kong telecom operator to join a promotional event for pre-paid SIM cards.
The actor seemed shocked by the immense crowds as his car drove past them. In a video clip captured from inside his car and shared online, Gil exclaimed, “Serious! All Filipinos?”
He later took pictures with his fans at the event and thanked them for coming and for their support.
Enrique Gil is a popular celebrity in the Philippines. He has appeared in various films and television shows. His Instagram account has 2.3 million followers, while 5 million people follow him on Twitter.
Truly he is the King of the Gil… ????
