Bangalore police have arrested a 28-year-old senior software engineer for allegedly raping a female colleague, videographing the act and uploading the video on a porn website, media reports said on Tuesday.

The accused, Arindam Nath, was arrested on Friday and remanded in judicial custody. The police said the arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a 26-year-old woman who worked with Arindam at a private digital transformation and marketing company in Bangalore, the Times of India reported.

The accused allegedly invited the woman to his flat last year and raped her. He reportedly also secretly filmed the act on his phone and started blackmailing her, threatening to upload the video on porn websites if she did not visit his flat whenever he asked her to. The woman, who is from Odisha, gave in to his threats and was raped several times, the complaint said.

After some time the accused started demanding money from her. In her complaint, the woman said, “I stopped acceding to his demands when he uploaded the video on a porn website on September 4.”

On September 6, a case was registered against Arindam and according to police, he has confessed to having uploaded the video to a porn website.

The woman had first approached the cyber crime police, who had the video deleted from the website.

Arindam has been booked under section 376 (punishment for rape), 384 (punishment for extortion) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, and section 66E (punishment for violation of privacy) and other relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
