Police are looking for burglars after attempted break-ins in Sai Kung in the New Territories and Pok Fu Lam on Hong Kong Island.
At 1pm on Wednesday, a security alarm sounded at a three-story house on Silver Cape Road in Sai Kung’s Clear Water Bay when the owner and his domestic worker were at home, Sing Tao Daily reported.
The owner found a burglar outside a window on the first floor who was about to escape. He immediately ran outside the house but the burglar had fled.
The house where the crime occurred is owned by Cowen Chiu, president of the Windsurfing Association of Hong Kong.
Police arrived and searched the hillside behind the house but no one was arrested. They believe the burglar planned to prise open the window to break into the house but failed because the alarm was triggered. No losses were reported.
Meanwhile, another burglary took place in the early hours on Thursday on Pok Fu Lam Road on Hong Kong Island, HK01.com reported.
A Canadian man living on the ground floor of 88C Pok Fu Lam Road heard some strange sounds in the garden at 4am. When he went to the garden, he saw a man jump from the second floor to the garden.
The burglar pointed a knife at the man before escaping. The man was unhurt. Police arrived and conducted a search but no suspect was found.
The building is surrounded with a wire screen with a sign “Danger High Voltage”.
In July, a burglary took place in the same building with residents reporting the theft of valuables worth HK$14,000 (US$1,793).
