A 56-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a bus driver and destroying the bus’s emergency door in Ma On Shan in the New Territories early this week.

The incident happened at 4am on Monday when the suspect, surnamed Ma, took the N281 overnight bus to Ma On Shan, Sing Tao Daily reported.

Ma fell asleep on the bus and discovered when he woke up that he had missed his stop. He then argued with the bus driver, before punching the driver in the face and left eye.

The man wanted to get off the bus but don’t know how to open the door, so he went to the back, grabbed the safety hammer and smashed the emergency door – before fleeing.

The driver called police and was sent to hospital for medical treatment.

Police arrested the suspect, who is unemployed, at a flat in Yan Hei House at Yan On Estate in Ma On Shan on Wednesday, Oriental Daily reported. Police confiscated an Octopus card, a chain of keys and some clothes.

Ma was arrested for assault causing actual bodily harm and criminal damage.
