A 67-year-old man fell to his death while cleaning windows in his home in Hung Hom in Kowloon on Tuesday.
A security guard found the man, a retiree surnamed Kwok, unconscious on the ground in front of Lily Mansions at Whampoa Garden in Hung Hom at 1pm. A cleaning towel was beside him, Apple Daily reported.
Kwok was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital but was later declared dead.
Police found the windows of three bedrooms in his flat on the 11th floor of Lily Mansions open. It was understood that Kwok planned to help his wife with some cleaning work while she was out.
Towels and cleaning agents were found in the master room.
The windows in two rooms were found to have no safety grilles, so police suspect Kwok lost his balance while cleaning the windows.
Over the past two years, at least three domestic workers and an elderly woman have fallen to their death while cleaning windows, Wen Wei Po reported.
In January the Hong Kong Government added new clauses to the employment contracts of domestic workers in Hong Kong to protect them from improper requests to clean the exterior of windows in high-rise buildings.
