Syria’s government signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran to repair the war-ravaged power grid, Aljazeera reports, citing Syrian state media.

The deal includes building a 540 megawatt power plant in the Latakia province, as well as helping to restore the main control center of the country’s power grid in Damascus.

“The Syrian government … is working relentlessly to restore the power system … Iranian companies will have a role in rebuilding Syria,” Syrian news agency SANA quoted Syrian Electricity Minister Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutli as saying.
