A 38-year-old Hong Kong woman and her 59-year-old Filipino domestic worker escaped injury from a gas explosion on the upper floor of their apartment in Wonderland Villas in Lai King, New Territories, on Saturday.
A woman surnamed Lo reported to police that an explosion at around 5:30pm had smashed two windows of her apartment on the sixth floor of Block 18, Tai Kung Pao reported.
Glass debris fell to the ground but no one was reported injured.
Lo and her maid Razal were at home when the explosion occurred, Apple Daily reported, adding that they had not been cooking at the time.
Firefighters evacuated 20 residents to the open area on the ground floor. The two women were rescued from the apartment and suffered no injuries.
After an initial investigation, the Fire Services Department said the explosion might have been due to leakage of liquefied petroleum gas in an apartment on the seventh floor.
