The Sha Tin Magistrates’ Court issued a bind-over order on Thursday to a Japanese coffee barista facing a charge of breaching the condition of her stay.
The prosecution agreed to offer no evidence against Nozomi Takiguchi, a 24-year-old Japanese coffee barista, on condition that she agreed to be bound over by the Magistrate, HK01.com reported.
Takiguchi agreed with the arrangement, which requires her to be bound by the Magistrate and the sum of HK$2,000 (US$256) for one year.
The court heard earlier that Takiguchi was arrested by an Immigration Department official on June 8 for allegedly working illegally in a %Arabica branch in Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon, Apple Daily reported.
An Immigration officer who pretended to be a customer witnessed Takiguchi make six cups of coffee in 10 minutes and serve customers.
According to her condition of stay, Takiguchi cannot do paid or unpaid work without permission from the Director of Immigration while in Hong Kong – as a visitor only – for that period.
