At least 20 passengers were injured when the Kaifiyat Express derailed after a collision in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district early Wednesday, according to media reports. 

A North Central Railway spokesperson told PTI that the train, which was traveling from Azamgarh to New Delhi, collided with a dumper at 2:50 am. Eight coaches were derailed and one overturned due to the massive impact of the collision.

In a statement, the Railway Ministry reportedly said, “An unauthorized dumper broke the railway fence and hit the engine of Kaifiyat Express causing derailment. There are no casualties but 25 persons have been injured.”

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted: “A dumper hit the locomotive of the Kaifiyat Express, resulting in derailment. Some passengers have received injuries and have been shifted to nearby hospitals.”

The collision has impacted train operations on the Delhi-Howrah route.
