Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi Independence Day address in an editorial in its party organ on Wednesday, Shiv Sena asked New Delhi to abolish Article 370 of the Constitution to allow people from all parts of the nation to “visit Kashmir and embrace its people.”

In his address to the nation on Tuesday, Modi said, “The Kashmir problem cannot be resolved by either bullets or by abuses. It can be resolved by embracing Kashmiris.” Saamana responded: “Why nobody got this great thought before is very surprising. Now to bring this thought into practice, abolish Article 370 of the Constitution so that hoards of people from across the country can go [to Kashmir] and embrace its people.”

Article 370 of the Indian Constitution grants special autonomous status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
