India says Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire on Wednesday along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, PTI reported. No damage or casualties were reported.

At 10:35 am, shots fired by Pakistani troops from across the border were reported in Nowshera sector. Indian troops guarding the LoC retaliated.

Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS, “Using small arms, automatics and mortars, they started unprovoked shelling and firing at 10.30 am.  It is still going on. Indian troops are retaliating strongly and effectively.”

Incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan in Nowshera and other sectors in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch have increased sharply this year, say Indian officials.
