A 25-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday night for allegedly indecently assaulting a six-year-old girl.

The man, surnamed Lee, turned himself in at the Tsueng Kwan O police station two hours after police announced at 6pm that they were hunting for him, Oriental Daily reported.

The girl and her nine-year-old brother went with their domestic worker to their grandmother’s home in Phase 3 of Metro City in Tseung Kwan O in the New Territories at 5pm, before the three went to a nearby playground.

A man, wearing a white T-shirt, dark-colored shorts and slippers approached the girl when the maid was unaware. He took her to a men’s toilet and allegedly assaulted her indecently.

When the two returned to the playground, the maid noticed that the girl was frightened. She went to check with the girl what had happened, causing the man to run away.

The maid chased after him but failed to catch him, Apple Daily reported. She immediately called her employer and they alerted the police.

Police arrived but no suspect was found. After investigating footage from surveillance cameras, a manhunt began at 6pm.

The suspect, who studies at a university in Taiwan and returns to Hong Kong for summer holidays, turned himself in to the police station at 8pm but denied that he had assaulted the girl, Sing Pao Daily reported.

However, police found that surveillance footage matched the process that the girl described. They arrested Lee and detained him overnight.
