When people think of Macao they often think about gaming and entertainment, but if Sands Resorts Macao has their way the city will also be synonymous with conferences and exhibitions. To attract new audiences, as well as new business, Sands Resorts is leading the charge to rebrand the former Portuguese enclave as the ideal MICE – meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions – location.

From June 26–29 the seven hotels of Sands Resorts showcased both Macao and their integrated resorts to media professionals from all over the world. This ambitious initiative, entitled The Ultimate Download – Asia’s Leading Meetings & Events Destination, sought to highlight the latest range of offerings at the integrated resorts’ seven world-class hotels, as well as Macao’s wider cultural and heritage attractions. Those attending experienced Sands Resorts Macao’s extensive range of meeting packages, facilities and services first-hand so they could repackage their experience for future meetings and events.

The event kicked off with Bon Vivant – a French themed poolside cocktail party at The Parisian Macao. Other events included Ultimate Connect, a mini-conference with a Q&A session covering a range of meetings and events industry hot topics, Ulti-Mart which showcased Sands Resorts’ world-class properties and other offerings as well as Macao itself as a destination and Ultimate Chef, a cooking competition for event participants.

The Ultimate Download proved an ideal forum to highlight these events thanks to its strategic location, prime venues and diversity of entertainment offerings already in place, Macao stands apart from the other key meetings and events destinations in the region.

Ruth Boston, senior vice president for marketing and brand management at Sands China Ltd, said: “One of the other key messages we wanted to get across to the participants was the wonderful culture and heritage of Macao, including its UNESCO world heritage sites. The event also allowed us to strengthen our ongoing relationships and future cooperation with this influential group of convention and exhibition professionals from around the globe.”

In addition to the incredible historical, entertainment, and culinary offerings, the city itself offers financial enticements for MICE events: subsidies including a 25% reduction of the actual amount paid for exhibition venues for qualified exhibitions, 10% off accommodation costs incurred at local hotels with a maximum five nights’ accommodation granted for qualified meetings, conventions and exhibitions.

The memorable event enabled attendees to experience Macao’s cultural heritage, integrated resorts, an unrivaled mix of accommodations, along with over 150 award-winning local and international restaurants, 850 duty free stores and world-class entertainment during their stay.
