A 23-year-old Somali man has been arrested for attacking a Pakistani with a chopping knife in Yau Mai Tei in Kowloon on Saturday.

At 3:18pm, police received a report that the Somali, named Jibriils, was wielding a knife near 189 Temple Street in Yau Ma Tei and had attacked a 34-year-old Pakistani man, Sing Pao reported, which said both the men were asylum seekers.

It was believed that the Somali went to a place to buy sex but was rejected because he said he had no money.

After being rejected by the prostitute, the man became emotional and rushed to the kitchen to get the chopping knife before running to the street, where he allegedly tried to attack people walking nearby. The Pakistani man named Amir was passing by and ended up suffering minor injuries.

When police arrived the scene with shields, officers tried to persuade the Somali man to drop down the weapon, but failed.

An officer from the Emergency Unit pointed his gun at the Somali man saying “put down the knife” – but the attacker yelled, “I come to die. Kill me! Kill me” while wielding the knife.

The officer sought to persuade him to put the knife down, saying, “I want to help you…calm down.” But the attacked replied, “I don’t need help!”

The officers moved closer to the man and used pepper spray to get him to the ground and subdue him.

The attacker and the victim were both sent to hospital for treatment. The Somali was arrested for possessing an offensive weapon and assault occasioning bodily harm, Apple Daily reported.
