A District Court judge has rejected an appeal request by the former employer of a former Indonesian domestic worker who was abused.
Law Wan-tung was jailed for six years in February 2015 for abusing her former Indonesian maid, Erwiana Sulistyaningsih. In March 2015, Erwiana filed a civil lawsuit seeking HK$700,000 (US$89,454) in compensation from Law, HK01.com reported.
Law earlier requested an appeal against the compensation amount and a psychiatrist’s report on Erwiana, adding that the psychiatrist should be summoned to testify in the court. But her request was turned down by the judge.
On Wednesday, Law appealed against the decision, saying she wanted to summon another psychiatrist.
Law, who is still serving her term in jail, did not turn up at the court.
But Judge Winnie Tsui rejected this, because Law did not apply within 42 days after the last trial. Her application was made after a few months but gave no explanation for the delay, Sing Tao Daily reported.
The judge said Law was drawing out the case on purpose and ordered her to pay HK$50,000 in court costs.
