Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Subhash Barala told the media on Tuesday that Varnika Kundu, who was allegedly victimized by his son and his friend, was like a daughter to him.

Barala’s son Vikas, 23, and his friend Ashish Kumar, 27, were accused of stalking, harassing and trying to abduct Kundu, the daughter of Virender Kundu, a senior Haryana IAS officer, on Friday night in Chandigarh.

Barala told ANI, “Investigation is being done in the case. Whatever action is required it will be taken against Vikas in this case. BJP bats for daughters’ freedom and Varnika Kundu is like my daughter. Neither I nor BJP is pressuring anyone in this matter.”

Both Vikas and Kumar were arrested on Saturday on charges of stalking and were released on bail soon after.
