The body of Deepak Amarapurkar, a renowned gastroenterologist who apparently fell into a manhole on Tuesday evening as heavy rains flooded Mumbai, was found by firemen and civic workers in a drain near the Worli seashore, NDTV reported.

Manholes in Elphinstone, Dadar and nearby areas were being checked by firefighters, police officers and disaster management personnel.

Asia Times reported on Wednesday that the rescuers were searching for the doctor, who worked at Bombay Hospital and was last seen near Elphinstone Road station after his driver dropped him off.

ANI reported that the 58-year-old’s body has been sent to Sion Hospital for a post mortem examination.
