August 17 is Indonesia’s national day and marks the Southeast Asia country’s declaration of independence from the Netherlands in 1945.
Local revolutionaries spent four years to achieve Indonesia’s independence through armed movements and formed a country with more than 17,000 islands in 1945. The national flag of Indonesia, called Sang Saka Merah-Putih (the sacred red and white), was unveiled on August 17 the same year.
Prior to that, the country had been a Dutch colony for more than 300 years, and was occupied by the Japanese army during World War II between 1942 and 1945.
Indonesians celebrate the national day with parades, community gatherings and athletic events every year on August 17.

On August 6, the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong organized a celebration for the nation’s people staying, working or studying in the city. The event took place at the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
More than a thousand people attended the activity to enjoy songs, dance and a fashion show.

Il dono dei mattini…
Francesco Sinibaldi
Amistad.
( third version )
Un profundo
silencio se difunde
en el cuarto con
el soplo ligero
del cansado suspiro:
siento una luz
rimar suavemente
cuando el sueño
regresa pintando
la imagen de
una tierna
colina, veo la
tristeza en los
ojos mojados
de una joven
mujer…
Francesco Sinibaldi
La giovane quiete dell’eterno mattino.
( In ricordo di Augusto )
Tremante la rosa
riappar nell’arietta
baciata dal sole
ed al fin fuggitiva,
coi petali tersi
e l’aspetto sincero
che corre nel
vuoto mirando il
passar del fugace
mattino; s’appresta
a vociar la diletta
canzone, rifulge
sicura nel poetar
della sera e poi triste,
quando un timido
pianto germoglia
nel cuore, s’adagia
spossata e d’incanto
svanisce lambendo
la luce dell’aperto
sorriso.

Proud to be Indonesian
Thank you Asia Times
Amistad.
Siento una
luz cantar
suavemente
como el sueño
infinito que
dulce regresa
en la triste
poesía.
