Around 3,000 Indonesian domestic workers, trained to provide home nursing care for the elderly, are expected to come to Hong Kong over the next year to alleviate the shortage of carers trained to look after the city’s older citizens.
Leung Hing-ki, chairman of Hong Kong TKI Association, said his employment agency had lined up several training centers in Indonesia to provide tailor-made training on home-based elderly care, Sing Tao Daily reported.
The three-month training includes how to use wheelchairs, how to help old people get out of bed, bathing and providing assistance when they go to the washroom. Trainees would have to go to an elderly center to understand more about elderly citizens before coming to Hong Kong.
Leung expected 2,000 to 3,000 trained Indonesian workers could arrive in Hong Kong in a year’s time, and said that their salary would be raised to at least HK$6,000 (US$766) a month once they were trained.
Currently, the standard wage for domestic workers in Hong Kong is HK$4,310 a month.
Meanwhile, at least 20 nursing school graduates from the Philippines will come to Hong Kong for elderly nursing jobs, Cheung Kit-man, chairman of the Hong Kong Employment Agencies Association, said. Their starting salary could reach at least HK$5,000,
The main responsibility would be to take care of the elderly, but a reasonable amount of household chores and cooking would also have to be done, he said.
Cheung’s agency reached an agreement with the Philippine government early this year for this arrangement and the first batch of carers could arrive to Hong Kong in February next year.
The city’s elderly population is expected to double to 2.3 million by 2034, data from the Census and Statistics Department indicates.

What is the difference between a filipino and an indonesian for a care giver job…you hired a filipino with that job (nursing graduate) and only a trained indonisian..and their salary has 1k difference..what the heck…and still their visa is under domestic helper visa…
Anna Louise ,i work here as caregiver cum housekeeper, and ny salary is 5,000hkd.I dirextly applied one of the agents here in HK.They are accepting only certified caregiver with NCII caregiving certificate.
yes there’s no such job as caregivers only here in hk..we are all domestic helpers..
ur a caregiver only madam? not also domestic helper? good for!
How it can be?all Filipino Domestic helper before leaving the country they have 3 months training including taking care the elderly, table setting, child care, household care and so on,and they just have 4310 salary?some employer they ask their maid to do tutorial to the kids they do not pay extra. Sad reality

It is possible and i am a living proof…i am a caregiver and I applied in a caregiver agency here in hk.
Agency will make more money by charging both side high fee and don’t even care if helper are well treat. So agency will send this worker to train for 3 months and tell them the training centre are cost more and ask to pay when they arrive in hk.

woww!i’m a helper but my salary is 6000hkd..how come the nurses that they’re employ just only a 5tou hkd ?
Nursing graduate to do caregiving to elderly and household chores is just like a domestic helper! How inconsiderate to employ Nurses for domestic works at a very small salary!
$6,000/month $3,000 for agency fee 1 year to pay for the training fee…no big deal…
That is so impossible… That they will give more salary for taking care of elder..people her in hongkong are not all capable of giving high salary to there helper…
In my first employer I taking care og 2elderly and 1dog.my salary is 4210
If that’s the offer of hongkong for Filipino caregivers it’s very cheap. Here in Israel they earn 1500$ a month not included allowance during of or extra pay during stay on vacation days.
taking care of erderly is not domestic helper it is a caregiver… hk should have spacific work like caregiver, nanny and domestic helper (household work). caring the old is not easy together with householdwork and also caring the baby too’ bec if what happend to them they will blame you, while u do household.

I am a filipina taking care popo for almost 12years. Hoping my salary is above the minimum soon. not easy to care a 91 bbed ridden. Alway not enough my sleeping during night time.
