Police were looking for a man after a three-year-old boy was found alone at home on Yau Ma Po Street in Sai Kung, New Territories.

On Saturday evening, the boy’s mother, a 35-year-old woman of Philippine origin, left home after having a quarrel with her Indian husband, Oriental Daily reported. When she returned home at 6am on Sunday, she found that her young  son was alone, locked inside a room.

Worried about the boy’s safety, the woman called the police, who soon arrived with firefighters to rescue the boy.

The boy was uninjured, but he was sent to a hospital for a checkup anyway accompanied by his mother.

Both parents hold Hong Kong identity cards.

Police categorized the case as ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of a child or young person, Sing Tao Daily reported. No one was immediately arrested. Wong Tai Sin police were looking for the boy’s father for further investigation.
