A 37-year-old Filipino man who holds a Hong Kong identity card was arrested as a suspect in a robbery that took place in Tze Wan Shan, Wong Tai Sin, in Kowloon on Monday morning.
At 8am, an 82-year-old Hong Kong man surnamed Chan was walking in the loading area of Haoyun Wet Market on Yuk Wah Street, Sing Tao Daily reported. He was allegedly approached by a Filipino, who stole a 189-gram gold necklace Chan had purchased several years ago for HK$50,000 (US$6,400).
The robber fled, and Chan was uninjured.
A passer-by called the police, and the suspect was identified from surveillance video obtained from nearby shops. Police arrested the Filipino in an apartment in Tze Ching Estate, a public housing estate in the district.
Officers were searching for the necklace, Oriental Daily reported.
