The Sri Lankan navy arrested eight Tamil Nadu fishermen on charges of illegally fishing in the island nation’s territorial waters on Thursday, according to media reports.

PTI reported that the navy also seized two fishing boats belonging to Kottaipattinam in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukottai district.

ANI reported that the fishermen were taken to Kankesanthurai Naval Camp to await legal proceedings.

In a separate incident, four fishermen were rescued by the Sri Lankan navy when their vessel sank off the Neduntheevu coast early on Thursday.
