About 30 members of a pro-Beijing group were seen shouting at several pro-democracy westerners near the Star Ferry Pier in Tsim Sha Tsui on Friday evening, just before the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover.

Hong Kong National Party, a pro-independence group, had called for a rally, namely “20 Years of Chinese Occupation”, near the Clock Tower at the Star Ferry Pier at 8:30pm. However, they were forced to cancel it at 8pm due to police intervention.
At around 8pm, several westerners, including one British, appeared at the Five Flagpoles near the Star Ferry Pier. A group of pro-Beijing people swore at them for more than 20 minutes.
At 8:17pm, a Hong Kong man called the police, who arrived at 8:27pm. No one was arrested.
Democratic activists should change their tactics. Instead of using the term democracy (min zhu), they should use indirect language such as asking the question: Do you support the Communist Party of China to rule us forever? Such a question will transmit a message identical to democracy but no reader will be able to object. As a consequence, they will not be attacked by pro-Beijing conformists.
The people of Hong Kong are tired of the disruption to their lives and businesses by foreign trouble makers and show their anger.
Low Shen-Cheang —Your "real history" was not real because during the Chinese civil war in the 1940s, China was terroized by a foreign country the Soviet Union which created the CCP and supported the CCP with weapons and money. Chinese lived in worse life than the present-day Libya, Egupt, Ukraine, Iraq for antoehr 30 years, not as you said "until CCP formed the government in 1949", because Chinese wellbeing was decided by their handlers from Moscow. As soon as the year 1949 began, Chinese lived in hell until 1980s. As late as 1970s, young university students were sentenced to death by firing squad in droves for political dissent, asking the CCP to stand by its promise of democracy. Yes, the CCP promised the Chinese people democracy before the civil war. Do you believe that there is such a promise? Were your ancestors in the CCP army fighting for democracy and died for it?
