Three asylum seekers of Indian origin were being hunted by Hong Kong police after being accused of attacking and robbing a 35-year-old compatriot in a flat in Sham Shui Po in Kowloon on Thursday morning.
An Indian man named Alam, also a refugee claimant, was sleeping at his friend’s home at 128 Fuk Wing Street but woken at 8am by a loud bang, the Oriental Daily reported.
He saw three Indian men allegedly holding wooden sticks and steel pipes break into the flat via the main door. He was then attacked by the trio.
After suffering injuries to his head and chest, he ran to neighbors to call the police. But the three men had fled before the officers arrived.
Alam later found that a mobile phone and HK$6,800 (US$870) in cash he left in the flat had disappeared. He was sent to hospital.
Police categorized the case as common assault and theft. They are hunting for the attackers, aged between 30 and 40.
