A soldier allegedly shot an army major dead late Monday night in a dispute over a mobile phone at a post near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, according to media reports.

Major Shikhar Thapa of 8 Rashtriya Rifles, who was on duty at Buchar post in Uri sector, was apparently killed when he took Naik Kathiresan G to task for using his mobile phone while on duty in a sensitive location.
