A 47-year-old Hong Kong man was arrested in Wong Tai Sin in Kowloon on Thursday evening on suspicion of having carried a 15-centimeter knife on a subway train and in a shopping mall in Lam Tim earlier in the day.

At around noon, police received a report that a knife-wielding man with black gloves had boarded a train at Wong Tai Sin MTR (Mass Transit Railway) Station and was heading to Lam Tin, Sing Tao Daily reported.

The man, spotted by police at one of the exits of Lam Tin Station, ran 200 meters to Laguna Plaza, a shopping mall in Laguna City. Around 50 police officers, holding shields and batons, cordoned off the shopping mall.

Many shops and restaurants were closed. Police dogs searched the area but officers failed to find the suspect.

At 10:40pm, police arrested a jobless man at Lung Chak House, Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate, for alleged possession of offensive weapons, HK01.com reported.

Police are investigating the case.
